As a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy I have full confidence in the expertise, knowledge and experience of the officers and soldiers of our military. I believe in trusting the military to do its job by ridding Iraq of the insurgents, who bully, intimidate and destroy the lives of countless innocent civilians.
The leaders of Iraq must be committed to the peace process. The people of Iraq have had a small taste of freedom. The more they taste of freedom, the more their hearts will desire something they lack and the harder they will fight.
The United States must maintain the deployment levels necessary to insure success. We have the best and smartest people to advise the President and Congress. We must trust the expertise of our great military minds. Politicians never won a war, so why should we let them dictate strategy? It seems to me like the Democratic leadership is quick to offer strategies for withdrawal which in fact they could sabotage our success and the safety of our troops. The fight for freedom cannot be put on a time-table.
We are the most powerful nation in the world and it has been our responsibility throughout our history to aid those who are weaker in their fight against tyranny, oppression and cruelty. The defense of our country and our continued commitment to the fight for democracy throughout the world is imperative for a strong America. We have to remember that peace and democracy takes time.
Our country went through the process over 200 years ago. There are many countries around the world just now tasting and testing the waters of freedom and democracy.
We also must keep our eye on Iran. Talk and diplomacy fall on deaf ears to those who want to destroy us. Talk and diplomacy give these countries more time to develop nuclear weapons and their plan to destroy us and Israel. In Viet Nam, every time a cease fire was called and “talks” ensued, the enemy had a chance to build up and refresh their troops.
The lives of the American people should not be dependent on leaders in Congress who cannot see this pattern being repeated. If they can not see what is going on and the need for a strong and immediate response, I question their competency to be in office.
